Guitar Amps Buyer’s Guide
There’s a lot of technical terms being thrown around in these amp reviews, so it may benefit you to brush up on some of the features to look for when purchasing the guitar amp for your needs. Here’s a quick breakdown of some terms you’ll often see, and how they relate to your guitar amp experience.
Tubes/Valve: A valve amplifier or tube amplifier is a type of electronic amplifier that uses vacuum tubes to increase the amplitude or power of a signal. In guitar amps, they are considered giving the best sound, but are also expensive and needs more maintenance.
Head/Cabinet/Combo: You can buy the Head and Cabinet as separate pieces, or a combo, which is basically a head and cab parts in the same box. Combos are more convenient for “grab-n-go” and considered giving nicely matched and rounded tones. They are usually less expensive. However, Head and Cabinets allow you to mix and match heads and cabs to see which speakers and cabs work for which gigs or recording sessions. Guitar amp reviews sometimes consider them better quality and to last longer, since the chassis is separated from the vibrating speaker box, that could potentially do some damage.
Keep these terms in mind when comparing prices and features to find the Best Guitar Amp!
