The Good

  • Resistance Control
  • Add-On Features
  • Durability
  • Small Footprint

The Bad

  • Fixed Design

Resistance Control: The First Degree Fitness Newport Challenge AR relies on its water flywheel to deliver natural drag through the rowing motion, but this machine takes things a step further. You can actually regulate the amount of fluid in the main tank to vary your resistance level.
Add-On Features: Adjustable footplates are just one of the features that make your rowing experience more convenient on the Newport Challenge AR. Along with displaying eight different workout metrics, the monitor also includes a USB port to charge your devices as you exercise.
Durability: Unlike other water flywheel machines on the market, the Newport Challenge AR features a metal frame instead of a wooden one. Naturally, this increases the machine’s durability, which reflects in its five-year limited warranty on the frame.
Small Footprint: The Newport Challenge AR is relatively small in terms of dimensions, but this gives you more flexibility for placement in your home. It also has wheels for easy transportation and storage. In addition, it only weighs 57 pounds.
Fixed Design: While it’s relatively small in terms of a footprint, the Newport Challenge AR has a fixed frame. This machine lightweight, which helps, but this feature could pose problems for some users in terms of mobility.
