  • Display
  • Construction
  • Gaming Experience
  • Keyboard

The Bad

  • Upgrading
  • Battery

Heat Dissipation: The MSI GE72 APACHE-264 comes with two fans in the back – one enabled by default. The second fan can be turned on in a pinch, providing excellent airflow, while not making much noise at all. This comes in handy when running resource intensive games.
Display: With a bright 17.3-inch glare-protective screen, all games look incredible, anytime, anywhere. You’ll probably forget you’re on a laptop!
Construction: What differentiates this model from other gaming laptops in this price range is the MSI GE72 APACHE-264’s superior design. Featuring a full brushed-aluminum finish on the lid and base, this machine is significantly more durable than others on the market.
Gaming Experience: The MSI GE72 APACHE-264 is capable of running modern games like Metal Gear Solid V and Dragon Age: Inquisition at 60 frames per second – double the speed these same games reach on consoles – on medium to high settings.
Keyboard: With sturdy, chiclet-style keys and a backlit display with full color range, this is a keyboard you should experience no issues with. Common pitfalls with most gaming laptops are soft, flexible keyboards. That’s not the case with this machine.
Upgrading: While this laptop can be modified to increase RAM or add another drive, doing so yourself will result in voiding your warranty. If you want to avoid this, you’ll have to send your machine to the manufacturer and have them upgrade it for you.
Battery: When playing games that require a lot of processing power, the battery tends to drain very quickly. It only offers about two hours of game time. Additionally, there’s software safeguards put in place to preserve battery health that limit the maximum charge, which caps at 96-97%, but this can be disabled in the machine’s settings.
